The Izvestia daily quoted Defense Ministry sources as saying that the arming of the land forces’ artillery brigades with 2S43 Malva firearms is under consideration.

Last week, Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko visited the Smolino test field in the Nizhny Novgorod region to see Ka-52M combat helicopters and new artillery guns. The Magnolia, Flox, Lotos and Malva rifles fired. Krivoruchko also saw the self-propelled mortar Drok in action.

“The equipment generally meets modern requirements and the troops are expecting it in the near future. The weapons go beyond existing ones in several tactical and technical characteristics, ”Krivoruchko said.

In 2020, the CEO of the Burevestnik Institute, Georgy Zakamennykh, told TASS that the institute is designing several new weapons, which will determine the image of the armed forces in the medium and long term.

“This is a Derivatsia 57 mm anti-aircraft artillery complex, an 82 mm Drok self-propelled mortar, a 120 mm Flox cannon on the armored landing gear of the KAMAZ and Ural trucks, d ‘a 120mm Magnolia with an open artillery cannon on an automobile landing gear,’ he said, adding that the equipment was in the final stage of the tests.

Zakamennykh said that the artillery is developing to increase the main tactical and technical characteristics: range and precision of fire, firepower of ammunition, tactical mobility, reduced deployment time and new shooting techniques.

Automatic survey and navigation controls are introduced. The weapons are integrated in the same information control space. The share of self-propelled guns is increasing, including wheeled vehicles. Their maneuverability increases.

“There is a clear trend towards the robotization of weapons. Remote control algorithms, elements of artificial intelligence, protected information exchanges are designed and introduced, ”he added.

Malva has been designed for several years, but little is known about its characteristics. In 2020, the head of the Defense Ministry’s main research and advanced technology department, Major General Andrey Goncharov said that the deployment time of the last 2S43 wheeled self-propelled gun was reduced three times compared to the weapons of the previous generation. Closing and relinquishing position time increased 20-fold. Leveling and decreasing weight and height increased vehicle mobility and survivability.

The 2S43 Malva is a new Russian 152mm truck-mounted self-propelled howitzer, based on a high mobility BAZ 8×8 heavy truck chassis.

The Flox is a 120mm mobile self-propelled mortar system based on an armored version of the Ural-4320 6 × 6 military truck chassis. The gun was designed by Nabrosok R&D. It has a combined semi-automatic rifled cannon that shoots all mines and mortar shells. It can fire like a howitzer or mortar, as well as at close range. For the first time in Russia, Flox received a system for detecting laser emission and placing optical disturbances.

The Drok is a self-propelled mortar carrier designed for Russian airborne forces based on the Typhoon-VDV 4×4 armored chassis. The vehicle is designed to support airborne assault units.

The Drok is armed with a manually loaded 82mm breccia mortar. The crew can shoot at targets without leaving the combat compartment. Mortar can fire ordinary and new mines with greater range and greater firepower. Drok weighs 14 tonnes. The crew of the vehicle consists of four men.

The mortar of the Drok vehicle has a firing range of 100 to 6000 m. It has a fire rate of 12 rounds per minute and the vehicle can carry a total of 40 ammunition.

The Magnolia is a 120mm tracked self-propelled mortar system based on the DT-30PM, a two-section articulated forwarder with a tracked tractor vehicle at the front and a tracked transport vehicle at the rear linked by a lifting mechanism. direction. For the Magnolia artillery system, the first vehicle is used to tow a modified cargo vehicle equipped with a turret armed with a 120mm mortar. A bank of six 81mm electrically operated 81mm smoke grenade launchers is mounted on either side of the front of the turret.

The Magnolia appears to be fitted with the same turret as the Russian-made 2S31 Vena, a self-propelled 120mm tracked artillery system. The 2S31 Vena is equipped with a three-man turret armed with a 2A80 120mm rifled gun. The turret has a 360 ° traverse with an elevation of -4º up to + 80º.

The Magnolia has a maximum firing range of 10 km with a rate of fire of 10 rounds per minute. The vehicle carries a total of 80 rounds.
